We allowed ourselves a bit of a lie-in this morning as we were short on sleep. Sherlock slept even later than I did.
Went by Buckingham Palace (although not to tour today) and met our first rude person! A woman thrust a small flower at us and explained what it was for with a lovely smile. When I explained that we didn't have any British currency yet, her face immediately fell into a fierce frown and she yanked said flowers right from hands. We couldn't stop giggling as we walked away!
We then had lunch at St James's park: Nutella peanut butter sandwiches and Quavers. Nice but quite windy, although at least the rain had tapered off by then! (We both had our brollies blown inside-out.)
Then it was off to the British Museum. Got a bit turned round and a nice young girl asked if we were lost and pointed us in the right direction. Once we got there, we could not BELIEVE the queue to get in! We almost left it for another day but thought, may as well see how quickly it moved, which ended up being surprisingly fast! Bit disappointed that the person taking our picture didn't get a bit closer.
So much to see there, we both could have spent much longer! Would have had more time if we hadn't had to queue for the loo, but the women had it much worse. We overheard two American women complaining that they'd had to wait for well over twenty minutes. In any event, we plan to go back (to the museum, not the loo...well, maybe the loo) if we have extra time towards the end of our trip. Oh, and Sherlock wanted a picture with this violin-looking thing.
Then it was time to find our way to our next attraction. We had tickets to Madame Tussaud's at 6:15 and wanted to be sure to get there with plenty of time to spare. Imagine our delight at finding out that the Tube Station we needed to get to was Baker Street!
Hopped off, found Tussaud's, and decided to stroll by 221B. We felt right at home straightaway!
For obvious reasons, Sherlock needed a photo with this statue...look down by the left foot.
Still had a bit of time to spare before we were allowed to queue for Tussaud's, so we went in some nearby shops. I made Sherlock try on this deerstalker. Apparently, his head is only metaphorically big. (I'll pay for that one.)
Then we saw a tea set just our size, so we sat down to have a nice cuppa.
At last, it was time for our Tussaud's tour! Sherlock was really keen to get a photo with this Cumberbatch bloke. Had to wait a bit as some American woman was fawning all over him, putting her head on his shoulder, touching his hair...she even pretended to ask for his autograph and pretended to be disappointed when he didn't respond. I was a bit embarrassed for her, truthfully.
I had to have our photo with RDJ, even though Sherlock kept muttering "wrong!" under his breath the entire time.
Sherlock really enjoyed the colour of Robin Williams's shirt.
Caught a ride with our favourite Extra-terrestrial (well, outside of Doctor Who, anyway).
Also at Tussaud's, a worker recognised us! It was a rather exciting moment. He stopped, did a double-take, said, "Is that...? Of course it is. Of course. Brilliant!" He also told us to be certain to check out North Gower Street, which we assured him was in the itinerary!
Then it was fish and chips for dinner and then the Tube back to our hotel! (In the reflection, you can see the two nice American women who offered to take our picture).
Full day and we are quite tired! Tomorrow is our Golden Tours day trip to Bath, Stonehenge, and Salisbury, so I don't expect I'll update again until late evening.
Thanks for reading about our day! Rainy and chilly but still a delightful and brilliant one!
